The Praça de Dom Pedro IV, better known as Rossio, has for centuries been considered the heart of Lisbon. The site of many events and celebrations, it also bustles with the activity of its numerous shops, cafés and restaurants. Right at the intersection between the   southern Baixa area and the grand Avenida da Liberdade, which sweeps up all the way to the Edward VII Park in the north and between the renowned Chiado and Bairro Alto areas in the west and the ancient areas on the slopes of Castle Hill in the east, this is an exceptional base for business or leisure.

Right on this square, with fantastic views over it and of the Castle of Saint George, the quality and location of the Hotel Métropole has for decades attracted visitors. In literally only minutes on foot you’ll find yourself in the most historic or the most stylish shopping areas, or the most characteristic squares. Historic Lisbon is at your feet.

And the sights further away could also not be easier to reach. Belém, with its famous tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the cultural centre, is a short tram ride away and a little further along the coast a short train ride brings one to the genteel coastal resorts of Estoril and Cascais. Of course no-one should visit Lisbon and miss magical Sintra: the direct railway leaves from Rossio station, just around the corner from the Métropole. The location of the Hotel Métropole could not be more convenient.
